U.S. President Donald Trump officially opened the new Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeen, marking a significant moment for Scotland’s golf tourism and setting the stage for the inaugural Nexo Championship, to be held from August 7 to 10. The tournament, backed by leading cryptocurrency lending and savings platform Nexo, is expected to attract global attention as digital finance and sports increasingly converge.

A High-Profile Launch with Global Guests

The grand opening ceremony was a high-profile event attended by a blend of political leaders, international business executives, and sports icons. Among the most notable guests were Nexo co-founders Antoni Trenchev and Kosta Kantchev, Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney, and President Trump himself, who hosted the occasion with a round of golf followed by a private luncheon.

Trenchev shared his gratitude, stating:

“President Trump officially inaugurated the new Trump International Golf Links in Scotland, set to host the Nexo Championship from August 7 to 10. Sharing lunch with the President after a round of golf, discussing politics, and our shared vision for crypto in the U.S. was a true honor. We’re sincerely grateful for everything he does – for everyone, everywhere.”

The leaders discussed forward-looking themes such as global innovation, the future of sports, and the transformative role of digital assets in the evolving global economy.

The Nexo Championship: A Growing Legacy in Golf

The Nexo Championship is a landmark event in Nexo’s growing sports portfolio. The company, known for its pioneering role in digital asset management, is now an official partner of six prestigious DP World Tour events, including:

  • Genesis Scottish Open
  • Betfred British Masters
  • BMW PGA Championship
  • Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship
  • DP World Tour Championship (Dubai)
  • And now, the Nexo Championship in Aberdeen

This strategic involvement not only strengthens the company’s brand but signals its broader commitment to bridging the gap between finance, sport, and community-building on a global scale.

Strengthening U.S.–Europe Crypto Relations

The Aberdeen ceremony also marks another step in Nexo’s re-engagement with the U.S. market. The partnership between Nexo and the Trump family first came into public view during Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to Bulgaria in April 2025, hosted by Nexo. During that visit, the company officially announced its return to U.S. operations, following a shift in regulatory attitudes toward the crypto sector.

Founded in Bulgaria, Nexo has since expanded its footprint across numerous international jurisdictions. With over $11 billion in assets under management (AUM) and more than $371 billion in processed transactions, Nexo serves clients in over 150 countries through an all-in-one digital asset platform.
